Manna Gum

1.
The halfmoon often peeked
between the fields of clouds
hoping I bow to my desires
and kiss the girl
through this timeless night
yet I gazed
not into your cobalt eyes
but at the pit of fire
imagining
you'd keep me warm
better
than these flames ever will
- and you know I will too
that we can dally with tenderness
without a care in the world
that you can rest your body and soul
on me at anytime you wish
... it's the least I can do
a spirit like yours
makes mine
copacetic
2.
still
I sense an eventual collapse
my air to your fire
may be too much
or
too little
friendship comes in many forms
and I suppose
that
is true
but it's difficult to accept
our bond as such.
