Steady Paws

Steady paws and crescent eyes
disguise
the cold, cold heart
that kills.
They dismiss their mind,
why the foolish attempt to reign another?
- it begs an answer
not your retort.
I suppose
youth leaves the door
cracked
instinct surrenders
and bows to a bolt
... the ticker skips along
for copious nights ...
Yet even a heavy clap of thunder
dissipates
leaving nothing
but the autumn wind.
And as they say,
life hurries along.
Crossroads on the highway
have no warnings
in sight.
